Susan’s Marriage Journey

A Journey of Love, Loss, and Resilience

In 1993, I embarked on my marriage journey when I met my first husband at church. Our union was blessed with a pregnancy (surprise!) just two months after our honeymoon.  However, as an overwhelmed wife and new mom, I initially felt that I was sorely unprepared for marriage.

My husband joined me on this therapeutic journey, and we realized that our struggles stemmed from a lack of modeling on how to relate to one another from our parents. Despite the rocky start, I felt certain that our experience would lead us to mentor others facing marriage difficulties.

Sadly, in 2011, he passed away suddenly, leaving me to navigate an unclear road as a single mom to a 16-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. After unsuccessful attempts at online dating, I was blessed to meet my present husband, also widowed.

A New Chapter, Familiar Lessons

Although both of us were armed with a wealth of marriage skills from our previous experiences, we quickly realized that marriage takes work and dedication, regardless of one’s past. Our journey together has been a testament to the power of resilience, open communication, and a willingness to learn and grow together.

Through the highs and lows, the joys and challenges, our marriage has been a tapestry woven with threads of love, loss, and the unwavering belief that true partnership is worth fighting for.
