Couples College Courses

The process of restoring health and healing to a relationship often feels lonely and isolating. Group work among others in similar circumstances provides the reassurance that you are not alone in your struggles, fostering a sense of belonging and hope. At The Couples College we host a number of groups where you will find support, acquire new skills, learn and practice new ways of interacting, rediscover your voice, and engage in open and honest conversations.

The Couples College Graduate Circle

The Couples College Graduate Circle is open to all graduates of our five-month and ten-month courses. It’s designed to help couples continue the good work they started in the regular course, with the support of other dedicated couples.

Learn More +

The Graduate Circle helps couples sustain the skills they gained in our primary course. We build on this foundation to help you break out of the cycles of disfunction that keep so many couples stuck in neutral. Our Circle groups are often playful, emotional and enriching in ways that even close friendships don’t experience.

The Graduate Circle consists of two groups that meet five times a year, every other month, starting in October. While not a huge time commitment, we consider these ongoing group sessions to be among the best methods available for couples to continue working on the issues that challenge their partnership.

Each Circle is limited to seven couples in order to foster a smaller, more intimate experience. Those who join tell us they appreciate being part of a community of like-minded couples also seeking to continue strengthening and healing their relationship.

Relationship Skills Group for Men

Let’s face it: For men, relationships are often among our greatest challenges. We begin a committed partnership filled with love, hope and great expectations. Over time, however, we may experience a growing sense of distance from our partner. We can become distracted by our career or lose some of the passion in our relationship. Suddenly, we feel powerless in our efforts to create more intimacy and restore connection. This is common in any long-term relationship

Communication is the key. Research shows that men who master the art of partnership communication ultimately lead much happier lives.

We have designed the Relationship Skills Group to help you do just that. I draw on my 30-plus years of experience as a relationship expert to help guide you through the often poorly navigated journey of partnership.

Here, in an environment that is uplifting, non-judgmental and supportive, we talk about the relationship challenges all men face, and share the secrets to a healthier and happier partnership. You will develop these invaluable new skills alongside other men facing similar issues.

The Relationship Skills Group for Men meets once a month for four months. Group size is limited to 10, maximum. For the foreseeable future, we will be meeting online.

Curtain Up! Anxiety Down! Social Anxiety Group

Many people experience anxiety and insecurity in social situations, and these days this problem is on the increase. Often, it is directly connected to feelings of depression and uncertainty, which can make it difficult to interact confidently with others.

Learn More +

But all is not lost: Murray Dabby now offers the course Curtain Up! Anxiety Down! This unique approach to overcoming social anxiety uses the performance art of improvisation. Improv promotes spontaneous “play” with others in ways that are fun, intimate and quickly transformative. Murray’s classes combine therapeutic improvisation with group conversation to help participants fully understand the practical applications of the improv experience.

These improv groups include a wide range of people, from college-age students and career professionals to retirees. The students share a desire to boost their confidence in a variety of social situations, whether it’s navigating the work environment or simply meeting new people.

Murray’s Adult Improv classes run twice a year, in February and September. The 12-week course moves participants comfortably and deliberately through accessible improv exercises designed to help develop fundamental social skills, process one’s feelings and apply improv’s lessons to real life. We periodically host improvisation courses for young people, as well.
